U.S. national murdered in Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta -
An American citizen was murdered here late Saturday or early Sunday, police have reported.

The body of John Lennox Douglas, 57, was found by a passerby outside his home in Colonia El Cerro about 9:30 a.m. yesterday. He had been gagged and bound with an electrical extension cord, and was dressed only in boxer shorts when discovered.

Authorities said Douglas was originally from Florida, but had lived in Vallarta for several years.

Investigators reported that Douglas had been struck repeatedly about the head. The interior of his house was in disarray, and some items may have been removed.

Neighbors told police that Douglas was seen drinking outside of his home with other persons hours before his death.

Fourteen months ago 65 year old U.S. national John Dickmeyer was found bound and gagged in a bedroom of his home in Colonia Bobadilla. His 41 year old Mexican housekeeper told investigators that two men came to the house several hours earlier, inquiring about an apartment which Dickmeyer had listed for rent. The American admitted them, and minutes later the visitors attacked him and the domestic. She was bound, too, but after several hours managed to free herself and summon police. That case has not been solved. Aug. 20, 2013 - "No clues" a common response with Vallarta P.D.
