Much fanfare for Enrique Peña Nieto on his 47th birthday

Guadalajara -
Institutional Revolutionary Party president Enrique Peña Nieto turned 47 today, his first birthday as chief executive of the Mexican republic.

Peña Nieto visited his home state of Edomex (the State of Mexico) today, where he remains a highly popular former governor. They rolled out the red carpet for the president and his first lady, film star Angélica Rivera.

Presiding over the grand opening of a new hospital on the outskirts of Mexico City, Peña Nieto was greeted with flowers, a cake, and of course, Mexico's beloved birthday song, Las Mañanitas. Word has it that the president got a card from El Chapo, but there was no return address on the envelope.

A Free Press preserves and promotes Free Speech

"La manifestación de las ideas no será objeto de ninguna inquisición judicial o administrativa

The free expression of ideas shall not be the subject of any judicial or administrative inquiry or trial" – Article 6, Constitution of Mexico.

"Es inviolable la libertad de escribir y publicar escritos sobre cualquiera materia

The freedom to write and to publish about any matter shall not be abridged" – Article 7, Constitution of Mexico.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances" – Amendment I, U.S. Constitution (Dec.15, 1791).
