Body of Canadian tourist remains unclaimed in Cancún

Hotel zone records two alcohol related deaths of foreign tourists in recent days

Guadalajara -
Early Monday morning Canadian national Sidney Nicole Taylor, 22, was drinking with friends at the Dady'O, a well known watering hole along touristy Kukulcán Boulevard in the heart of Cancún's hotel zone. She and a friend, Natalie Jane Archibald, 21, were registered guests at the Gran Caribe, just a few doors away.

Taylor and Archibald left the Daddy 'O about 2:45 a.m., according to the latter, who went to bed as soon as the young women returned to their rooms.

Later, Taylor tried to make her one from balcony to another, said investigators. She fell about 10 meters (32 ft.) onto a concrete parking pad and was killed. Her body was discovered around 5:45 a.m.

Police say they found half-empty liquor bottles inside Taylor's room, and in the hallway just outside.

The tragedy was the second in as many weeks to take the life of a foreign tourist. On Apr. 28 Ketlen Fleming, 40, of Los Angeles, fell eight stories and crashed through the skylight of a bar where she had been drinking only minutes before. That incident occurred at the Hotel Aqua, also on Kukulcán.

A news service which identified Taylor reported this morning that her body has yet been claimed. Quoting police, it suggested that her drinks might have been adulterated, but offered no details.

May 15 - Yet another foreign tourist met a similar fate yesterday in Playa del Carmen, minutes down the coast from Cancún. Robert Kritor, 44, fell about 10 meters from his hotel room balcony. Police say excessive alcohol consumption likely caused the 7:30 a.m. accident. Kritor, a U.S. citizen whose hometown was not given, was vacationing with family members.

  1. Hmmm? Is it me or is there inordinate amount of tourist falling off balconies at these hotels? Simple blood work or an autopsy could determine intoxication, drug levels and if a fall victim was killed or sexually assualted before the fall.
