The Attorney General of Mexico is conducing a press conference at this hour concerning the cause of last week's devastating blast at Pemex Tower B2 in Mexico City (Huge explosion at Pemex offices in Mexico City).
The explosion has claimed 37 lives as of today. Many other victims remain hospitalized. Some are in critical condition.
The nation's top prosecutor, Jesús Murillo Karam, told dozens of reporters that gas which had accumulated in the building's basement was responsible.
Karam said forensic investigations completed so far have revealed no evidence of an "artifact" or bomb. "The explosion had all of the characteristics of an event triggered by gas," he noted.
Karam added, "none of the victims were dismembered," which he said would have been the case had the blast been caused by a man-made device.
Karam was accompanied to the conference by Pemex executives, and top PRI government officials.

I know nothing of explosions, or the consequences to the human body of such, but that in fact is exactly what Attorney General Karam said during his live press conference Monday evening. I watched it.
DeleteHe also said this: The explosive force moved "outward, slowly and horizontally." I doubt that he intended the word "slowly" as it's customarily understood. Perhaps explosions move at different speeds - I have not the vaguest idea, but I imagine there are many experts in the field who understood him.
All this being said, it would seem to require a rather massive conspiracy if in fact there was evidence at the scene of a bomb or other man-made "artifact" (Karam's term). Hundreds of witnesses in the building and just outside reported nothing that would resemble a car bomb or other large explosive device.
