Two executed in Cancún - and killers left a holiday greeting; another dead in Playa; police officer and 15 year old son executed in Saltillo hit squad attack - family injured

Cancún, Quintana Roo --The bodies of two men were founded earlier today in this resort city on Mexico's Caribbean coast. A narcomensaje, or executioner's warning, had been placed on the front windshield of a vehicle holding the victims. It said, por extorsionadores y rateros ¡Feliz Navidad!, "for being extortionists and thieves - Merry Christmas!

Police have not yet identified the men, but say the executions are the work of organized crime. The head of each man had been bound in cloth and masking tape.

Authorities concede that the Los Zetas cartel dominates drug trafficking and other crime in Quintana Roo state, which is immediately to the east of Yucatán. (Cancún executions continue at steady pace: http://mexicogulfreporter.blogspot.com/2011/11/cancun-narco-executions-at-steady-pace.html).

In nearby Playa del Carmen, the body of a man was found in a neighborhood which some authorities described as "exclusive." Police originally thought the victim was female, since the body was dressed in women's clothing. Further investigation revealed it was a man, about 25, killed by a single .9mm shot to the head. Identification found at the scene suggests he may have been a taxi driver. No motive has been established.

On the other side of Mexico this morning, in Saltillo, the capital city of Coahuila state, a police officer and his 15 year old son were executed by sicarios (hit men) as they rode together in the family car about 6:30 a.m.. The officer's wife, another young son and a daughter of 12 or 13 were severely injured but survived. They were rushed to a local hospital. The police have no suspects and have stated no motive for the brutal attack.

Later reports today said that the officer was the commander of the Saltillo city police force.
