Fifteen die in attack on Chihuahua bar

Victims include employees and guests who tried to flee 10 youthful gunmen

Chihuahua, Chihuahua --
Thirteen people were executed in a bar late Friday evening (Apr. 20) by a heavily armed commando team carrying automatic weapons, local authorities report. Four other patrons were injured in the assault at the El Colorado tavern. The motive is unknown and there are no suspects in custody. The neighborhood was under the watch of federal troops and state police afterwards.

Witnesses said at least 10 gunmen, most of them very young and some possibly minors, arrived in five vehicles. They were dressed in military clothing. Some customers tried to flee but were cut down. The assailants left immediately after the shootings.

One of the injured died shortly after the attack, which occurred about 9:00 p.m. Another person was shot and killed by the hit squad just outside the bar. The state prosecutor has placed the aggregate death toll at 15. Dozens of shell casings from .9 mm and .223 mm ammunition were recovered at the scene. Both rounds are used in assault firearms.

The largest city in the state of Chihuahua is Ciudad Juárez, on the border across from El Paso, Texas. It's often called the most dangerous city in the world. Last night's attack was in the state capital, also known as Chihuahua.

Aug. 10 - Three men, ages 31, 33 and 48, were arrested yesterday and charged with the murders. At a court hearing today they confessed and said that other unidentified persons has dispatched them to the bar and instructed them to kill everyone present. No motive has been stated by authorities.
