Peña Nieto surges in El Universal poll

PRI candidate quickly regains the points he lost in January

In an El Universal presidential preference poll reported today, Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) nominee Enrique Peña Nieto appears to have surged significantly just two weeks after the National Action Party (PAN) selected its 2012 standard bearer on Feb. 5.

The Mexico City newspaper reported the latest results as follows:
PRI - Enrique Peña Nieto: 48%
PAN - Josefina Vázquez Mota: 32%
PRD - Andrés Manuel López Obrador: 20%

Right after the PAN internal primary, a Consulta Mitofsky national poll (Feb.9) reported (http://mexicogulfreporter.blogspot.com/2012/02/campaign-2012-presidential-poll-shows.html):
PRI - Enrique Peña Nieto: 40%
PAN - Josefina Vázquez Mota: 24%
PRD - Andrés Manuel López Obrador: 18%

Peña Nieto plainly appears to have regained virtually all the momentum which he had lost by late January, at least if today's El Universal survey of probable voters can be trusted: http://mexicogulfreporter.blogspot.com/2012/01/pena-nieto-slips-while-lopez-obrador.html.

Poll results will be posted regularly throughout the campaign season.
