California Congressman blasts A.G. Eric Holder over Fast and Furious

As I reported last week, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, Barack Obama's top man at the Justice Department, is in hot water. A Republican member has called for a special counsel to investigate whether Holder committed perjury when he testified about the now defunct Fast and Furious operation before House investigators on May 3 (http://mexicogulfreporter.blogspot.com/2011/10/us-attorney-general-in-cross-hairs-over.html). Today Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) got his punches in, telling Holder in a publicly released letter that "whether you realize yet or not, you own Fast and Furious. It is your responsibility."

Last week Holder sent a letter to members of Congress, denying that he had misled them in his earlier statements. Issa would have none of it, however. "Instead of pledging all necessary resources to assist the congressional investigation in discovering the truth behind the fundamentally flawed Operation Fast and Furious, your letter instead did little but obfuscate, shift blame, berate, and attempt to change the topic away from the Department's responsibility in the creation, implementation, and authorization of this reckless program," wrote the congressman.

"The time has come for you to come clean to the American public about what you knew about Fast and Furious, when you knew it, and who is going to be held accountable for failing to shut down a program that has already had deadly consequences, and will likely cause more casualties for years to come," added Issa.

Fast and Furious isn't Eric Holder's only headache these days. He - and his boss - will likely have to answer for the recently disclosed Operation Wide Receiver as well. That ATF program ran from 2006 to 2007, when George Bush was still in office, but Obama administration officials learned about it by mid-2010, and perhaps earlier. Details of Wide Receiver here: http://mexicogulfreporter.blogspot.com/2011/10/can-guns-really-walk-from-us-to-mexico.html.

Last week the president said that he has full confidence in Holder, and stands behind him: http://mexicogulfreporter.blogspot.com/2011/10/obama-will-stand-by-his-man-even-though.html.
