Earl Wayne, new U.S. Ambassador to Mexico sworn in

The new ambassador took his oath of office today, administered by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Wayne replaces former ambassador Carlos Pascual, who was forced to resign in March after Wikileaks disclosures compromised his relationship with Mexican officials (http://mexicogulfreporter-supplement.blogspot.com/2011/11/new-us-ambassador-to-mexico-stands.html). Ambassador Wayne is expected to arrive in Mexico City later this month to present his credentials. He has stated that one of his primary interests will be to move ahead with the Mérida Initiative, a joint security and intelligence agreement hammered out by President Felipe Calderon and former President George Bush in 2007.
