Mexico celebrates 201st birthday with "La Grita" - the Cry of Independence

A Free Press preserves and promotes Free Speech

"La manifestación de las ideas no será objeto de ninguna inquisición judicial o administrativa

The free expression of ideas shall not be the subject of any judicial or administrative inquiry or trial" – Article 6, Constitution of Mexico.

"Es inviolable la libertad de escribir y publicar escritos sobre cualquiera materia

The freedom to write and to publish about any matter shall not be abridged" – Article 7, Constitution of Mexico.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances" – Amendment I, U.S. Constitution (Dec.15, 1791).

"In the First Amendment the Founding Fathers gave the free press the protection it must have to fulfill its essential role in our democracy. The press was to serve the governed, not the governors. The government's power to censor the press was abolished so that the press would remain forever free to censure the government.
