Apparently even Gross' U.S. attorney has given up any hope that Bill Richardson will leave Cuba with the American "contractor" (that's not my analysis of him, by the way, it's just how the press generally refers to Gross). I received this e-mail from Peter J. Kahn, Gross' Washington D.C. attorney, a short time ago:
“The Gross family is heartbroken to learn that Governor Richardson’s efforts to reunite the family have been rebuffed by the Cuban government. They are greatly troubled by the fact that the Governor was invited to Havana to discuss Alan’s case, only to be turned away and not even allowed to visit Alan. The family fears that the Governor’s inability to see Alan may be related to Alan's deteriorating health, as in the past others have been permitted to see Alan when visiting Cuba.
“Despite this unfortunate development, the Gross family is extremely appreciative of Governor Richardson’s efforts. The family continues to hope and pray that Alan will be released on humanitarian grounds in time for him to be back with his family for the Jewish High Holy Days.”
It's a safe bet that attorney Kahn would not have issued this statement unless Richardson was already packing his bags. Just what I predicted yesterday.
